The Crosscut attack
The first time I played this game I wasn't expecting much of it. Phantasy Star 3 wasn't all that great and I was used to play the Shining Force saga, which are great games. Man, was I in for a surprise... Phantasy Star 4 is brilliant!
Although graphics aren't essential to a RPG, Phantasy Star 4 features the best graphics I've ever seen in a Genesis RPG (even better than Shining Force 2). The sounds and musics are ok (here the Shining saga is better) and the control method is simple and effective. But where this game wins points is in the story. A superb story, with amazing story-telling screens in manga-style. I can't stop thinking that this story with these pictures would make a wonderful manga (japanese cartoon) book. They really place us in the game...
But let's move on. The game has lots of characters, although you can only have a maximum of five at the same time. Shining Force (I know that I keep comparing PS4 with SF2, but it's impossible not to... they are the best examples of what a RPG should be... in a Genesis, at least) features more characters but PS4 places them better in the game. Each character is part of the story.
As for the story itself, sometimes it's simple and sometimes it's complex. The story begins in Motavia, with Chaz Ashley going for his first Hunter's Guild mission. Little does he know that because of this mission he will use several vehicles and travel through space to planets and space stations... The game is set in the future, but even an ADND fan will like it. Even if you prefer strategic battles (like SF2) to turn-based (like PS4) you'll like this game!
Well, what else is there to say? Play it!
