These are the July Update news:
- English: the translation patch for Tales of Phantasia is almost
has already translated the ROM and only needs to finish "minor"
stuff before releasing it. This caught me by surprise, since I
was unaware that there was a translation patch already so advanced.
Anyway, it's never late for good news :).
- Shining: I'm considering creating a new section to support the
Shining Force 3 translation, but that will depend on the amount
of interested people willing to help... If you wish to see this
project get off the ground,
mail me or use our
- Translation: everyone who bought a Saturn remembers Shining Force 3...
this game was splitted in 3 scenarios, which were planned to be
released separately. Everything worked out well with scenario 1,
but scenario 2 and 3 only saw the light of the day in Japan. This
left the non-japanese speakers with what we can call an incomplete
game. With the release of the Dreamcast, a lot was spoken about a
possible release of Shining Force 3 in english... but Camelot denied
that they were working on that project. Anyway... lately, I've been
talking with some people from translation groups regarding the technical
possibility of releasing a patch for those two scenarios (since the
game's ISO is already available on the web). The opinions I got were
really positive... technically, it is possible to make a working patch
for that game, copy the patched ISO to a CD and run it on a Saturn.
With this said, I would like to know if anyone out there is interested
in translating these two games. A full text translation has already been
released, but that's quite different from actually playing the game.
Although knowing that it's quite difficult to succeed with a translation
project, I decided to present this idea, maybe someone out there is
willing to help or know someone who can... Therefore, RPG Channel is
about to become a center for what I called "Shining Force 3
Translation Patch Project" (original name, eh? :) ). Well, RPG fans...
you know our e-mail and you
can also use our
Message Board. Let's see if we can get this thing off the ground! :)
- Update: Sorry for the delay on this month's global update, but
it was completely impossible to upload it earlier...
- Arcadia: 14th of September is the estimated Japanese release date for
Dreamcast's "Eternal Arcadia". This 2 GD-ROM RPG should be released
in the USA in the 1st of November, under the name "Skies of Arcadia".
- Final Fantasy 9: Squaresoft has decided to forbid the creation of
walkthroughs and FAQs for their latest RPG. According to them,
the release of these aids would ruin the gaming experience and
they want Final Fantasy 9 to be the greatest RPG ever (talk about
being modest :) ). They did not say how would they prevent the
release of such documents, but it is quite probable that most RPG
sites will comply to this. But do walkthroughs and FAQs exist only
to spoil the gameplay of a RPG? Or are they gameplay-boosters,
specially when someone's stuck? Post your opinion in our
