I woke this morning, went to the window, and admired the frost on the trees. Then I sat down at my computer, checked the emulation news, and saw the abomination that UltraHLE turned the emulation "community" into. I saw people on EFNet begging for ROMs. I saw the cancellation of two other emulators as because their authors were afraid of being associated with something illegal. I saw Nintendo taking advantage of the people in their panic by saying, "Emulation is illegal." And worst of all, I saw the image of that which 5% of all persons involved in emulation cast over the other 95% of us. These five percent must not be allowed to sour the face of emulation anymore! The world has come to know the emulation scene as a bunch of software pirates, rom beggars, and hackers. When Marat Fayzullin released Virtual Game Boy, he opened a whole new world to us with broken consoles. This was a heaven for us with busted Nintendoes, or Ataris that melted down. However, within a matter of a few years, this heaven turned to hell, and all that we've worked for has been washed down the drain by 5 of 100 percent. Don't get me wrong here. I have nothing against UltraHLE. As a matter of fact, I'm glad it was released. The effect it caused can be ignored no more by members of the emulation community. Everybody, some for the first time, have seen the ugly head of this alter-image of the emulation scene. Perhaps this will help the few of us who did see before help rid our emulation community of this abomination. I used to have an Atari 5200 with a 2600 adapter. I used to have a NES. I used to have a SNES. All of them for some reason do not work now. I still have all my old games. It's hard to find a NES or an Atari anymore; and even if I could, why should I have to pay for another one? I have 3 emulators on my computer. An Atari 2600 and 5200 emulator, a NES emulator, and a SNES emulator. I have 85 roms on my system. I have 85 cartridges in my dust-coated collection sitting on the shelf. And now, because of 1% of people, Nintendo (and other game companies) want to take away MY right to play games THAT I RIGHTFULLY PAID FOR on a system THAT I RIGHTFULLY PAID FOR. This letter is not just meant to release steam. This letter is a call to all of us in the emulation world. We MUST stop this 5% of people from taking any more from us than they already have. We MUST clean up the dirt and grime that have tarnished the true image of emulation. And we MUST preserve the true spirit of emulation, our insurance of that which we have rightfully paid for. Let us rid the emulation scene of its horrible image, and show the world the true spirit of emulation! }-RaeJae-{ nmeyer@hotpop.com
